According to statistics released by MIFCO, MVR 5.1 million has been disbursed to fishermen from 233 vessels that weighed their catch so far this month. Although the total disbursement has decreased compared to previous periods due to a seasonal decline in fishing activity during Ramadan, the company is currently maintaining a 48-hour payment cycle for all fish weighed. The majority of the payments were made for skipjack tuna. Meanwhile, the government continues to prioritize the expansion of the fisheries sector, including efforts to ensure the availability of fuel at affordable rates for fishermen.
