Island Aviation has announced that Maldivian, the national airline, has transported over 80,000 passengers and 1,800 tonnes of cargo within the first year of its wide-body aircraft operations. Launched in alignment with the presidential pledge of President Dr. Muizzu, the operation has significantly boosted tourism, with more than 40,000 tourists transported from three major destinations in China alone. In addition to China, the airline currently operates flights to India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. Following the substantial success achieved with a single aircraft, the government is now working to introduce an additional wide-body aircraft by the end of this year to further expand the airline’s international reach and services.
