
The bodies of four Italian tourists who went missing during a diving excursion in Vaavu Atoll have been recovered from an underwater cave, marking the conclusion of the recovery mission. In a coordinated effort involving the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the Maldives Police Service, and international diving experts, two bodies were retrieved yesterday, while the final two were brought to the surface today.
According to a government spokesperson, the authorities are currently proceeding with the identification process and making necessary arrangements for the repatriation of the remains to Italy. The tragic incident, which occurred on the 14th of this month, resulted in a total of five fatalities, including the four divers and their instructor. The government has extended its gratitude to the Finnish diving team and the Maldivian companies that provided vital assistance throughout the operation.
