Ibrahim Shujau, the Senior Deputy Leader of the PNC Parliamentary Group, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been compelled to govern under the most arduous conditions witnessed since the enactment of the ‘Green Constitution’. He highlighted that upon the current administration’s assumption of office, the economy was in a precarious state, with a staggering $300 million required just to sustain government operations. Shujau noted that while financial projections from the previous administration suggested the Maldives would face bankruptcy this year, President Muizzu is successfully advancing national development projects and settling outstanding debts without resorting to additional loans.
Furthermore, Shujau emphasized that within a remarkably short period, the administration has reclaimed 1,100 hectares of land across 21 islands, while the development of airports and housing units is progressing at an accelerated pace. He also underscored the administration’s success in providing significant relief on electricity bills during the month of Ramadan and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential services to the public as major achievements.
