The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has stated that the government’s “Wet Market” project, planned for the site of the Male’ Local Market, has come to a standstill due to the Male’ City Council’s refusal to hand over the land.
The City Council maintains that the land cannot be surrendered as it was previously contracted to another company. However, the Ministry highlighted that the Council has neglected to terminate the agreement, even though the company itself had formally requested its cancellation.
President Dr. Muizzu has also noted that while the necessary funding and contractors have been secured for the project, the commencement of work is being delayed solely because the land has not been transferred to the government.
