President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the islands and lagoons for the development of 10 new resorts have been designated, fulfilling his pledge to make every Maldivian citizen a shareholder in the tourism industry. Aimed at diversifying the benefits of tourism beyond a select group to the general public, the President stated that segments of this project are scheduled to commence in November. He further assured that these resorts would be completed within 36 months, ensuring that the Maldivian people begin to receive the direct economic benefits of these developments.
