As part of the government’s ongoing initiative to establish laboratory services across the country, facilities have been successfully inaugurated in 18 islands to date. The Ministry of Health aims to extend these services to an additional 76 islands by the end of this year, ensuring that basic diagnostic tests are accessible in every inhabited island. Furthermore, X-ray services have already been introduced in four islands.
This project is expected to significantly reduce the need for residents to travel to other islands for medical testing, providing substantial financial and social relief to the public. The government highlights that this is a crucial step towards early disease detection and the development of a healthier society.
