The Minister of Education, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, has announced the government’s objective to inaugurate Majeedhiya School’s “Centenary Building” next year, coinciding with the school’s 100th anniversary. Speaking at the ceremony marking the school’s 99th anniversary, the Minister stated that work on the project has already commenced under the guidance of the President. In addition, plans have been finalized to construct a new 40-classroom building on the site of the former Dharumavantha School and to transform the historic “Darul Uloom” building into an educational museum.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasized that Majeedhiya School must serve as a benchmark for other institutions in terms of both academic excellence and technological advancement. He also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to instill noble values, discipline, and practical skills in students. As the foundation of formal education in the Maldives, Majeedhiya School began its journey in 1927 with just 69 students. Today, the school caters to over 1,300 students and remains one of the most significant landmarks in the nation’s history and educational development.
