The Business Center Corporation (BCC) has announced the establishment of a Cultural Center at the Maldives Polytechnic, scheduled to open in November this year. The primary objective of this center is to revive and sustain traditional Maldivian crafts that are in decline, such as the intricate art of weaving traditional sarongs (Feyli), and to provide a platform for teaching these essential skills.
Furthermore, plans are underway to expand this initiative by opening similar centers in Baa Atoll Thulhaadhoo and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Gadhdhoo by July next year. The government aims to empower local artisans by creating opportunities for sustainable income, addressing existing market challenges, and ensuring the preservation of the nation’s intangible cultural heritage. This project is a specialized initiative undertaken under the guidance and leadership of the President to revitalize the traditional craftsmanship of the Maldives.
