The government has facilitated the provision of free ambulance services for non-emergency situations through the Aasandha scheme. Announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, this policy change follows a comprehensive assessment of technical and financial aspects, aimed at easing the difficulties faced by the public.

Under this new reform, Aasandha will now cover ambulance services for transporting deceased individuals, as well as for moving bedridden patients and persons with disabilities for medical tests and treatments. Furthermore, as part of the ongoing project to provide ambulances to islands, many regions have already received vehicles. The government is also working to procure paramedic ambulances by next month. The administration’s ultimate goal is to ensure uninterrupted ambulance services across all inhabited islands.
