In a historic first for the Maldives, the national airline, Maldivian, has commenced direct Umrah flights from Gan International Airport in Addu City to Saudi Arabia. This milestone operation, conducted in collaboration with “The Traveller” agency, aims to provide convenience and ease for residents in the southern atolls traveling for the Umrah pilgrimage.
The inaugural flight, operated using an Airbus A330, carried 260 pilgrims, including numerous families and children. This initiative aligns with the government’s strategic policy to enhance and streamline Hajj and Umrah arrangements. To support this service, Maldivian has facilitated connecting flights from other southern atolls to Addu City, ensuring a seamless journey for all passengers.
Maldivian has stated that this successful launch marks the beginning of a long-term commitment, with plans to continue operating direct Umrah flights from the southern region in the future.
