The President and First Lady, accompanied by senior government officials, attended the flag-raising ceremony held at Republic Square to commemorate the Maldives’ 61st Independence Day. Similar ceremonies were held across all inhabited islands of the country this morning, featuring the national anthem and a special prayer marking the occasion. Additionally, the official Independence Day function is scheduled to take place at 9:00 AM at the Social Centre, where the President will deliver his national address. The Maldives achieved full independence from British protectorate status on July 26, 1965.
