
Addressing the official function held to mark Independence Day, Minister Heena Waleed emphasized that the foundation of preserving the Maldives’ independence lies in the sovereign spirit inherited across generations, alongside the nation’s rich cultural heritage and distinct identity.
Highlighting that the current administration accords the highest priority to safeguarding national independence and revitalizing nationalism, the Minister reminded the audience of historical instances where certain locals had been complicit in undermining the nation’s sovereignty.
Consequently, she called for unwavering national unity on matters of state interest and urged all citizens to uphold their Maldivian identity. The Minister further noted that the government’s ongoing policy to promote national character is the most pivotal effort in ensuring the long-term preservation of the country’s independence.
