The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has announced that the physical work for the Male’ City seawall rehabilitation project is scheduled to begin this coming May. The project has been awarded to Japan’s Toyo Construction.
This initiative aims to address the structural deterioration of the seawall caused by aging and frequent tidal swells. The scope of work involves repairing the section extending from the ‘Raalhugandu’ area to the ‘Citron’ area. Additionally, the seawall near King Salman Mosque will be raised by 70 centimeters to enhance coastal protection.
The project also includes the establishment of a centralized monitoring system for 16 pump stations across Male’. This comprehensive development is expected to provide a sustainable solution to the flooding issues faced by the eastern side of the capital, thereby significantly improving the safety and resilience of the city. The entire project is slated for completion by July next year.
