Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has appealed to journalists to uphold fundamental journalistic ethics and ensure the factual accuracy of the information they disseminate. This call for accountability comes amidst a period of heightened tension, following a police raid on the “Adhadhu” news office and the seizure of passports belonging to two of its senior journalists. These actions were prompted by a documentary released by the news outlet, which leveled several allegations against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
While the President has categorically denied the accusations and signaled his intent to pursue legal recourse, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, emphasized that press freedom should not be exploited as a platform for character assassination. Meanwhile, international organizations have begun expressing their concern over these recent developments.
