The Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar (G. Balasubramanian), has stated that efforts to integrate India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the Maldives’ ‘Favara’ system are progressing rapidly to bolster bilateral economic cooperation. Once implemented, this integration will provide seamless financial transaction capabilities for Maldivians traveling to India for education and medical purposes, as well as for Indian tourists visiting the Maldives. The High Commissioner highlighted that this initiative is set to bring a transformative shift to trade and commercial activities between the two nations. It is anticipated that the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) will conclude the ongoing technical preparations within this month.
