Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has announced that, effective from the first of next month, new measures will be implemented to simplify the visa extension process for tourists, addressing current challenges. Under this new arrangement, the requirement for extensive documentation will be reduced, allowing tourists to apply and make payments online. The visa extension will then be processed within 48 hours.
In addition to these efforts, which aim to mitigate the negative impacts on tourism resulting from the conflict in the Middle East, the government is also preparing to introduce specialized visa categories for remote workers and content creators. The government anticipates that these changes will significantly boost the Maldives’ tourism sector, particularly benefiting the guesthouse industry.
