President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has submitted the nomination of Mohamed Shakeel, a newly appointed member of the Elections Commission (EC), for the position of Commission President to the People’s Majlis. The matter has been forwarded to the Committee on Independent Institutions for further review. Shakeel, who has previously served as a member and Director General of the Commission, will be formally appointed to the post upon receiving parliamentary approval. The vacancy for the presidency of the EC arose following the resignation of the former President, Mohamed Zahid.
