In a significant political shift, the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) secured a clean sweep in the Ha. Filladhoo Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) by-elections held on Saturday. This victory marks a historic turning point for the island, which has traditionally been a stronghold for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

According to the results, Mohamed Hamidh was elected as the Council President, while Mohamed Muizzu secured the seat for Council Member. Additionally, Zaeema Abdul Rasheed won the designated seat for a female council member. The PNC candidates also successfully captured all contested seats for the Women’s Development Committee, further consolidating the ruling party’s influence in the region.
