The Minister of Arts, Culture, and Heritage, Heena Waleed, has announced that preparations are currently underway to commence the establishment of National Library branches in six islands as part of a nationwide project.
Under this initiative, construction work for library facilities is already progressing in Addu City and Fuvahmulah City. Furthermore, practical efforts to establish libraries have begun in HA. Ihavandhoo, HA. Kelaa, N. Kendhikulhudhoo, ADh. Mandhoo, Dh. Meedhoo, and Th. Buruni, following assessments of the existing infrastructure in these locations.
The government’s overarching objective is to develop modern libraries across all Maldivian islands to foster a culture of learning and research among the youth. Additionally, this project aims to ensure the preservation and sustainable management of the nation’s cultural heritage.
