The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has officially launched two distinct competitions under the title “Crafted by Currency,” aimed at encouraging the creative repurposing of decommissioned and shredded polymer banknotes. This initiative, which focuses on promoting environmentally friendly recycling practices, comprises a Souvenir Design Competition and an Artwork Creation Competition.
Open to both individuals and business entities, the competitions offer cash prizes of up to MVR 15,000 for the winning entries. The finalized products are scheduled to be showcased at the Financial Expo in 2026.
Interested participants are required to submit their applications by May 14, 2026. Notably, winners of the Souvenir Design Competition will also be granted the exclusive opportunity to produce official corporate gifts for the MMA.
