President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed deep concern regarding the City Council’s delay in handing over the land required to commence the construction of the new Market Complex, which is set to include both the Male’ Fish Market and the Local Market. The President noted that despite securing the necessary funding and finalizing the contractor four months ago, the council continues to hinder the project’s progress by citing various excuses.
The proposed six-story modern market is a MVR 126.3 million project designed to consolidate all of Male’s markets under one roof, featuring 455 kiosks. Despite the lack of cooperation from the council, the President assured that the government would find a solution to the issue and remains committed to completing the project by December of next year.
