The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has announced the government’s strategic plan to develop a Maldivian airport as a secondary hub for an international airline. The Minister highlighted that, in response to evolving global trends and the need to diversify the domestic aviation sector, there is significant potential to establish a hub for a major airline in either the northern or southern regions of the country. Furthermore, he noted that efforts are underway to expand opportunities for low-cost carriers and to formulate the necessary legal and administrative frameworks to facilitate this growth. According to the Minister, this initiative is a key component of the government’s long-term vision to bolster the national economy and strengthen the aviation industry.
