Maldives and Sri Lanka Discuss Strengthening Cooperation in Environment, Tourism, and Trade

The Maldives and Sri Lanka have held high-level discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of environment, tourism, and trade. These discussions took place during a courtesy call paid by the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The meeting was held as part of the President’s official state visit to Sri Lanka, following an invitation from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

During the meeting, both parties highlighted the enduring 60-year diplomatic relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. They underscored that the close ties between the two nations are built upon shared principles and a long-standing history of mutual friendship.

Furthermore, both the President and the Minister reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in various sectors for the mutual benefit and prosperity of both nations. The discussions focused extensively on key areas of development, specifically emphasizing environmental conservation, the expansion of tourism, and the promotion of bilateral trade and investment.
