President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that preparations are underway to launch a large-scale project to upgrade the roads of Male’ and Villimale’ to modern standards, funded by a grant from the Chinese government. Under this initiative, some roads will be developed with asphalt, while others will be paved with bricks. To ensure a permanent solution to the city’s flooding issues, the project will incorporate integrated stormwater and dewatering systems, alongside the installation of firefighting infrastructure.
The physical work for this project is expected to commence by late this year or early next year. This initiative is a crucial step toward addressing the long-standing challenges faced by Male’ residents due to population growth and deteriorating infrastructure. Furthermore, the government has decided to task MTCC with the reconstruction of Ameenee Magu to rectify the poor quality of work completed by the previous administration.
