“Believing the words of sorcerers is prohibited”

Yesterday’s Friday sermon focused on the malevolence of sorcery (sihr). Sorcery is an act of shirk (associating partners with Allah), which is recognized as a profound reality and categorized as a major sin in Islam. The sermon highlighted that sorcerers commit acts of impurity and desecration that lead to apostasy, submitting themselves to Satan to achieve their objectives.

Even in times of illness or adversity, it is strictly forbidden to seek out sorcerers, consult them, or believe in their claims. The core creed of a Muslim is to believe that nothing can occur except by the will of Allah. Therefore, instead of succumbing to the suspicion that difficulties are caused by sorcery and seeking help from sorcerers, the sermon urged the faithful to place their trust in Allah and remain steadfast in prayer and the recitation of Adhkar (remembrances).

The sermon further emphasized that for healing and protection, one must utilize Shari’ah-compliant Ruqyah, as established in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah. Furthermore, guidance was provided on how to distinguish between legitimate practitioners of Ruqyah and sorcerers, advising the public to stay away from those who engage in practices contrary to the tenets of the religion.
