In yesterday’s Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections held in K. Maafushi, the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) secured a significant victory by winning the majority of the seats. Ali Shammoon, representing the PNC, was elected as the President of the Maafushi Council. Out of the five council seats, the PNC successfully captured three.
Furthermore, the PNC candidates also secured the presidency and two additional seats on the Maafushi Women’s Development Committee. While the PNC demonstrated a strong performance across the nation in this election, the main opposition, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), maintained its dominance in the urban centers, securing the majority in five cities, including the capital, Malé.
