The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has signed a strategic agreement to introduce the “People-Centered Community Tourism Empowerment Model,” aimed at enhancing public engagement within the tourism sector. This pilot program is scheduled to commence in four islands of Baa Atoll, with the primary objective of creating opportunities for women, youth, and the elderly to benefit directly from the tourism industry. The initiative focuses on establishing a sustainable system that prioritizes community needs. As the project’s first phase focuses on mapping, it serves as a crucial foundation for future human resource development and the enhancement of local productivity.
