The government, in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office, is currently working to categorize bullying and harassment as criminal offenses and to implement stringent measures against perpetrators.
The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, stated that due to the increasing occurrence of tragic and life-threatening incidents resulting from bullying, it is imperative to treat this as a serious issue and establish a robust legal framework for enforcement. Although bullying is not currently recognized as a distinct individual offense within the Maldivian legal system, the rising prevalence of such behavior in schools and workplaces has prompted the authorities to initiate efforts to identify mechanisms for filing criminal charges against those who engage in these acts.
