
In his address marking World Press Freedom Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu underscored that ensuring a secure and safe environment for Maldivian journalists remains a key priority of the administration. Recognizing the media as the “fourth estate” of the nation, the President offered assurances that freedom of expression would be upheld in accordance with Islamic ethical standards.
Furthermore, the President highlighted that training opportunities would be facilitated to enhance the professional development of the media sector, noting that the government welcomes constructive criticism aimed at ensuring state accountability. He also condemned the violence against journalists in various parts of the world and urged the press to remain vigilant against the misuse of tools such as Artificial Intelligence for the dissemination of misinformation.
