The Elections Commission has officially released the final results for the 2026 Local Council and Women’s Development Committee by-elections. Candidates from the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) secured victories in three out of the five contested constituencies: HA. Kelaa, HDh. Neykurendhoo, and L. Maavah.
The seat for the B. Donfanu Council was won by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), while an independent candidate emerged victorious in the Dhandimagu constituency of Fuvahmulah City. The Elections Commission highlighted a notably high engagement in this election compared to previous by-elections, with a voter turnout of 72 percent.
