Family members of MP Asma Rasheed, representing the Maafannu South constituency, have been removed from high-level government positions amid allegations of her working against the current administration. This administrative action follows the leak of an audio recording in which MP Asma reportedly criticized the leadership of the People’s National Congress (PNC) and expressed her refusal to cooperate with the government.
Among those dismissed from their posts are Mohamed Hussain Shareef, the Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates; Aminath Hussain Shareef, State Minister at the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources; and Dr. Salma Rasheed, the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, along with several high-ranking officials in state-owned enterprises. Following these developments, members of the Congress Party have directed sharp criticism towards Asma, accusing her of betraying the party’s trust and principles.
