Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) designed specifically for sport fishing have become increasingly popular and are highly valued by the youth and local councils. To date, the Ministry of Fisheries has successfully deployed more than 90 FADs across the nation.
As part of the ongoing expansion, new sport fishing FADs are scheduled to be installed in K. Maafushi and N. Lhohi next week. Additionally, plans are in place to deploy FADs in several islands within Haa Alif and Shaviyani Atolls.
Given the high demand for these resources, the Ministry is placing a high priority on the timely repair and maintenance of detached or damaged FADs. To enhance operational capacity, the Ministry is also working to establish two additional FAD fabrication centers in the northern and southern regions of the Maldives, supplementing the existing facility in Hulhumalé.
