The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has launched a nationwide initiative to establish library services in every inhabited island of the Maldives. Physical implementation has already commenced in Addu City and Fuvahmulah City, following the approval of the Social Council paper regarding the development of these facilities. The government’s primary objective is to ensure that library services are accessible in some form on every island.
A comprehensive survey conducted among all local councils highlighted a significant public demand for these services, leading to the formulation of various developmental models tailored to the specific needs of different islands. Furthermore, as part of the effort to modernize and digitalize library services, the “Online Digital Report Collection” has been officially inaugurated.
