As part of the government’s initiatives to propagate the knowledge of the Holy Quran, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs is currently working on developing 15 new branches of the National Center for the Holy Quran across various regions of the Maldives. To ensure these centers meet the educational standards set by the Ministry of Higher Education, 35 out of a total of 50 branches have already been officially registered.
While teaching has commenced in 25 of these locations, the government has also decided to recruit qualified foreign teachers for islands facing a shortage of local educators. The establishment of Quran Center branches in every inhabited island is a key pledge of the President. In line with this commitment, the current administration has increased the allowances for Hafizes and transformed the National Quran Competition into a prestigious state-sponsored event with significant investment.
