Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the Chairperson of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), has stated that the high number of candidates contesting for positions in the party’s internal elections demonstrates significant public interest and the strength of its internal democracy. He emphasized that, unlike traditional political parties, the PNC is driven by its general membership, without the leadership endorsing specific lists of preferred candidates. Furthermore, Abdul Raheem noted that since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office, the party’s membership has surged from approximately 3,000 to over 77,000. He highlighted this rapid growth as unprecedented evidence of a political party strengthening at such a pace under any administration.
