The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihsan, has announced that starting from the 2nd of next month, the government will begin deporting foreign nationals who fail to provide the required information. This measure is being implemented under “Operation Kurangi,” an initiative aimed at resolving the issue of undocumented migrants in the Maldives.

The Minister noted that over the past two years, efforts to regularize foreign workers have led to a 62% compliance rate. However, there are still 2,933 individuals who have not yet updated their information. Under the third phase of this operation, which is set to launch next month, authorities will identify those who have failed to provide necessary documentation or have outstanding fees, with the goal of repatriating them within one year.

The primary objective of this ongoing effort is to collect biometric data from all foreign nationals and establish a permanent solution to the challenges posed by illegal migration in the country.
