Minister Adam Shareef Umar has provided assurance that the government will work closely with all newly elected local councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) without any political bias or discrimination. Congratulating the successful candidates, the Minister expressed his confidence that the councils would fulfill their responsibilities diligently and maintain a close relationship with the citizens. He further noted that these changes would significantly strengthen the decentralization system. It is noteworthy that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured a majority of the seats in the elections held last Saturday.
