The candidate numbers for the upcoming parliamentary by-election of the Hithadhoo North constituency have been finalized. During a ceremony held at the Elections Center, a draw was conducted between the two candidates who filed their nominations for the seat. Candidate number one was assigned to Ahmed Saeed, representing the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC). The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, Abdulla Sodiq, was assigned candidate number two.
Ahmed Saeed secured the PNC ticket after the constituency’s former Member of Parliament, Mohamed Sinan, withdrew his candidacy. The Elections Commission has scheduled the Hithadhoo North by-election for the 6th of next month. According to the commission, polling will take place from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The parliamentary seat became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling, which determined that Mohamed Sinan, elected in 2024, failed to settle a proven debt in accordance with a court judgment.
According to the voters’ list published by the Elections Commission, a total of 4,114 individuals are eligible to vote in this by-election.
