The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) secured a clean sweep of all seats in the Ha. Baarah Island Council during yesterday’s Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections. In addition to winning all five council seats, the party also secured four out of the five seats on the Women’s Development Committee. While the PNC demonstrated a strong performance nationwide, the main opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), maintained its dominance in the urban centers, securing the mayoralties and council majorities in five cities, including the capital, Malé.
