UN Secretary-General António Guterres has stated that there are indications that the United States, Israel, and Iran have all committed war crimes during the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Following the targeted assassinations of senior Iranian officials by joint operations between the U.S. and Israel, Iran has been launching retaliatory strikes against key Israeli infrastructure and American military bases. In response to Israeli attacks on Iran’s ‘South Pars’ gas fields, Iran retaliated by targeting energy infrastructure across the Gulf. Notably, an attack on Qatar’s gas production facilities has significantly diminished the country’s export capacity, resulting in substantial financial losses. Guterres emphasized that the exchange of such targeted attacks between the parties could potentially be classified as war crimes.
