The “Addu Business Dialogue” forum has commenced at Hithadhoo School, aimed at identifying the economic challenges facing Addu City and accelerating its developmental progress. This two-day event, organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in collaboration with the Business Center Corporation (BCC), primarily seeks to gather input and concerns from the local business community to effectively implement the special incentives pledged by the President for Addu City between 2027 and 2029.
The forum is attended by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, alongside representatives from various government ministries, banking institutions, and key state agencies such as the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). During these sessions, participants will assess Addu’s economic landscape and share information regarding tax concessions and potential financial assistance mechanisms. Furthermore, the dialogue focuses on eliminating barriers for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to transform Addu into a more investor-friendly environment.
The outcomes and recommendations from this forum will be presented to the Cabinet to finalize the framework for the proposed incentives. The government intends to successfully implement this economic model in Addu as a pilot, with the long-term goal of introducing similar development models across other regions of the Maldives.
