Former President Abdulla Yameen has announced his candidacy for the 2028 presidential election and commenced political collaboration with former President Mohamed Nasheed. However, his political trajectory remains deeply ambiguous and shrouded in uncertainty. Having previously leveled heavy criticism against the MDP and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, while vowing never to align with them, his current alliance with President Nasheed has raised significant questions even among his own supporters. Furthermore, despite his ongoing criticism of the current administration, his occasional praise for President Dr. Muizzu to garner support from PNC members, coupled with the diminishing influence of his own party, PNF, highlights a series of contradictions in his political stance. Consequently, given the impending legal challenges and the inherent presidential rivalry between the two former leaders, the political platform upon which President Yameen intends to contest the 2028 election remains entirely unclear.
