The Maldives Police Service has reported that former President Abdulla Yameen has refused to accept a summons notice to appear for questioning regarding his public claims that the fire at the building housing three government ministries was an act of arson and that the perpetrator is known to the authorities. Contrary to these assertions, the police stated that their investigation concluded the incident was caused by an electrical short circuit, with no evidence of criminal activity. In a written response to the police, President Yameen maintained that he possesses no further information regarding the matter and therefore sees no reason to present himself for an interview. Highlighting that the inquiry was initiated at the request of the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, the police urged all parties to provide cooperation within the legal framework and to refrain from making statements that could undermine public confidence in ongoing investigations.
