
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has stated that the introduction of wide-body aircraft services marks a significant advancement for national security and safety. Speaking in the People’s Majlis, the Minister highlighted the critical role of these aircraft in ensuring the transport of essential goods during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitating Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, and boosting the tourism sector.
Minister Ameen noted that over 67,000 passengers have already utilized the service, with flights currently operating to destinations including China, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. He further shared that the government aims to acquire an additional wide-body aircraft by the end of this year, with plans to expand operations to new destinations, such as South Africa.
