The government has decided to establish a Traffic Monitoring Center as part of its efforts to find a permanent solution to traffic congestion. Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, stated that the redevelopment of all roads in Malé to modern standards will commence this year with the assistance of the Chinese government. Furthermore, following consultations with relevant stakeholders to address traffic issues, the Malé region is set to be designated as a vehicle registration controlled zone. The primary objective of this change is to regulate the registration system under specific policies and standards, thereby ensuring public safety. The Minister also noted that the law provides the authority to designate other regions of the Maldives as controlled zones if necessary.
