The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has refuted allegations claiming that preferential treatment was given to a specific foreign entity in awarding the Thilafushi International Commercial Port development project. In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the project is being conducted within the legal framework, prioritizing national development goals and interests. The Ministry further emphasized that the port will remain under Maldivian ownership upon completion, and maintained that the government’s actions in such matters will always be guided by the “Pro-Maldives” policy, which upholds the nation’s sovereignty and independence.
