President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government has successfully demonstrated the feasibility of introducing PayPal services to the Maldives, despite claims from the opposition that it would be impossible. Speaking on the “Nation Chat” podcast, the President highlighted that this service, which became available through Ooredoo m-Faisaa on the 15th of this month, fulfills one of his key presidential pledges.
The President noted that establishing this service involved nearly a year of direct negotiations with major global companies like PayPal. He emphasized that this achievement is a significant step toward strengthening the Maldives’ digital economy and will provide substantial opportunities for the youth and the creative industry. The government aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to 15 percent of the national GDP by 2030.
