Speaking at a campaign event for Ahmed Saeed (Soda), the People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate for the Hithadhoo North constituency by-election, Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla asserted that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has failed to effectively hold the government accountable within the Parliament. He further expressed his view that the election of MDP candidate Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe) would bring no significant progress or added value to these efforts.
Furthermore, Abdul Raheem provided assurances that any attempts by the opposition to initiate a no-confidence motion against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu would be thwarted within the Parliament. He emphasized that the citizens granted a super-majority to the PNC specifically to facilitate the President’s governance and legislative agenda. Highlighting the importance of securing this seat for regional development, he also alluded to past unrest in Addu City, urging constituents to withhold their support from individuals associated with such incidents.
