The Government of Maldives has hailed the decision to suspend the 20% import duty on Maldivian fish products to the United Kingdom until the end of 2028 as a significant triumph of President Dr. Muizzu’s robust foreign and economic policies. Highlighting this as a pivotal advancement for the fisheries sector resulting from the President’s diplomatic engagements with the British Monarch, Chief Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef stated that this move will ensure more competitive pricing for Maldivian fish in the international market, thereby bringing direct economic benefits to the citizens. Given that the Maldives is a key exporter of fish to the UK, the government is actively working towards making this duty-free arrangement permanent.
